Consultation for Low Road retail development

Yorkshire-based property developer Opus North will be hosting a consultation event for its proposed retail development on Low Road. The consultation event will be held on Tuesday 26 January at St Joseph's Parish Hall, Crown Street,from 2-6.45pm.

Tom Arnold of Lexington Communications, on behalf of Opus North, has written to the Chamber about the consultation.

"The proposed development would bring two 16,000 sq ft retail units to Cockermouth, regenerating a brownfield site and supporting new jobs and investment.

Full range of funding schemes for those affected by flooding now in place
Six separate funding schemes are now in place to support households and businesses affected by flooding, with a seventh scheme to fund household flood protection set to launch on 4 January.

They include:

Launch of grant scheme for businesses affected by the floods

Funding is now available to support businesses severely affected by the recent flooding - whether flooded directly or affected less directly through, for example, extended road closures.
Grants are available to non-farming small and medium sized businesses (up to 250 full time equivalent employees). Support for farming businesses is being arranged separately through Defra.

Gote bus service

A bus service, paid for by Sainsburys, will be running from 11 December to reconnect the Gote with the town centre. It will run on a loop from 9am to 5pm, Monday to Saturday. The loop is Wakefield Road car park, Papcastle,  Main St and Sainsburys. This route will be reviewed regularly to ensure it meets residents needs.
