Cockermouth Business News

News Update from Steve Bishop

For those who weren't aware, the chamber has been working this year on new ways to market the town.  This is forming different ideas and strands, another of which I'll email separately on shortly. One that had been in development for a while is strengthening our exposure to the 2M website visitors to the Cumbria tourism website, GoLakes.

Working with Cumbria tourism (CT), we have developed a new town format that is a micro-site within the overall website and better promotes our key strengths and reasons to visit.

For the last few years we have donated to the Young Enterprise scheme at Cockermouth School.  The original request was for £500. Each year The Trout generously gives £250 and we ask ten members of the Chamber to donate £25.

Last year we received 16 donations.  We gave the school £250 and £150 was ring fenced for this year.

Spirit of Christmas 2015 - Thursday 12th November 5 - 8 pm

Due to the huge success of this event 2 years ago, the Retailers and Restaurateurs of Cockermouth have decided to open their doors late for everyone to come and get ideas for Christmas.  All participating shops will have different offers on for the evening, giveaways, discount etc and many will hope you will join them in a Christmas drink to make the evening even more enjoyable.

The evening is not all about selling. It is more to show the people of Cockermouth what fantastic shops you have on your doorstep and the amazing selection of product available in this superb town.

Cockermouth by Candlelight 2015

Message from the Cockermouth by Candlelight team:

With less than 90 days to Christmas, thoughts are inevitably beginning to focus on the festive period and for us that means Cockermouth by Candlelight!

We're really excited that Cockermouth by Candlelight will be the official opener to the new Taste Cumbria Christmas event this year - a fabulous festive weekend in which to showcase our wonderful town!

Taste Cumbria - Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th September

Fast approaching, the 6th Taste Cumbria festival is upon us.  I’m sure you’re all aware of this but as a quick summary, the layout is based on previous years, and will be virtually identical seeing the main ‘producers market’ down the Main Street.  We will have 80 producers in all and clearly will be a busy and hopefully exciting weekend.  Market Place will play host to the hot food area and children’s area.
