Cockermouth Emergency Responce Group Launch Event

Saturday 3rd December 2016
11am– 1pm drop-in session, Christ Church, Cockermouth

Launch event – to be attended by Sue Hayman MP

The Cockermouth Emergency Response Group has been formed by Churches Together in Cockermouth, Cockermouth Rotary and Cockermouth Flood Action Group in response to the frequent flooding of the town. The aim of the group is to ensure that our community is better prepared for flooding and other large scale emergencies.
Come along to the launch event where you will be able to:

Gritting pavements

There is a grit bin in front of the public loos on Main Street and if you have a slippy patch outside your business feel free to go and grab a mug of grit to tackle it.

Cumbria County Council looks after gritting and grit heaps and bins, and their Highways team will replenish them on demand. Their hotline is 0300 303 2992 or you can email: highways@cumbria.gov.uk.

Flood Insurance specialist broker

We have been advised that a meeting will soon be happening in relation to insurance (a business type Flood RE scheme from BIBA - British Insurance Brokers' Association) but in the meantime, anyone finding problems with getting flood insurance should contact the number below.

BIBA have a  Find-A-Broker service that can help put people who are struggling to find insurance.  This offers specialists who are able to assess flood risks and place cover which quite often is not available through traditional routes.

Cockermouth by Candlelight 2nd December

Cockermouth by Candlelight will take place on the evening of Friday 2 December this year.

With several members of the organising committee having been flooded and having a lot on their plates, the decision has been made to revert to how the event was in year 1, so it will involve:

·         A lantern parade (starting at the Community Resource Centre next to the Town Hall at 6pm and finishing at the URC)
·         Late-night shopping (at least until 7pm - please get involved)
