The next Open Meeting of the Chamber will be held at the Kirkgate Centre on Tuesday 14 June at 6pm.

We will have a cuppa for starters and hopefully the centre will be able to find volunteers to staff the bar at the end of the meeting. To help with the catering it will help if you email me to let me know if you are one or two or more, as soon as you can.

The minutes of the May Executive will be on the web site shortly and we are also going to publish all sub committee minutes on the web to enable all members to know the extent of the Chamber's activities.

June 10 sees the first anniversary of the Chamber of Trade's Shop 10 loyalty scheme and plans are being made to relaunch it and attract even more shoppers to take part.

Participating businesses range from solicitors and hardware stores, to fashion retailers and food shops. Around 90 shoppers a month are entering their completed loyalty cards into the monthly prize draw. The aim of Shop 10 is to encourage people to use the town's independent businesses and boost their trade, as well as benefiting themselves from great deals and customer service.

Letter from the Chair

The Times and Star has this week given good coverage to the Chamber's views on parking. We are vigorous in this campaign in the belief that our town needs a parking regime that is fit for purpose.

Prosperity in Cockermouth means, in the age of the motorcar, access for all that does not send local people and visitors to other towns or shopping centres with free parking. The Letters page includes contributions on this theme.
