BT has launched The Race to Infinity – an online contest which could see five towns fast-tracked to receive the superfast fibre optic broadband. The Chamber of Trade raised an amazing £4,700 in raffle ticket sales and presented a cheque to Cockermouth Mountain Rescue Team with thanks for their amazing rescue efforts during the floods of November 2009. £3,500 has been spent on an inflatable boat which would prove invaluable if the county was to flood again. Jonty Chippendale chose the charity as the Chairman’s charity of the year and the cheque was presented on the night of the Chairman's social.

Anniversary Flood Social

All members of the Chamber of Trade are invited to pop along to the Kirkgate Centre on Saturday 20th November from 5pm.  We're holding an Anniversary Flood Social. There will be complimentary food and drink, music by Crowdog and children's entertainment provided by performers from Euphoric Circus.

Organised by a group of volunteers, most of whom were flooded themselves, we'd like this to be a positive night - a celebration of the community spirit that has kept people going since the floods a year ago.

Feel free to pop in - bring family and / or staff members.
