Town goes pink-tastic!

Windows across the town are going girly to raise awareness of the disease - and spread the word that it's not just women who can be affected. Can you believe it's already time to start thinking about Christmas?

Get into the festive spirit with the town’s Christmas lights switch-on. The event takes place on Sunday 21 November on Main Street. You may remember the event was a washout last year thanks to Mother Nature – so let’s make this year’s event one to remember!

The town will be lit throughout Main Street, Station Street, Market Place, Kirkgate, Crown Street, Castlegate and Gallowbarrow.

Do your bit for Chamber's charity appeal

Please can you spare an hour to help sell raffle tickets in Sainsbury’s on Sunday 10 October or Sunday 31 October? The company has kindly offered to back the Chamber’s new charity appeal by allowing us to sell tickets in store – but we need as many volunteers as possible between 10am and 4pm.

Businesses urged to boost the coffers of the RNLI

A lifesaving charity has appointed a new representative to boost its fundraising efforts in Cockermouth - and businesses are being urged to spare a little space to help.

David Bowen has been appointed as volunteer Box Secretary for the town by the Royal National Lifeboat Institution. He is now appealing to shops, pubs, hotels and other businesses who may be willing to place a collecting box on their counters, bars or reception desks.

Tickets now on sale for charity raffle

Please do your bit for the Chamber’s major new charity raffle which aims to raise thousands of pounds for Cockermouth Mountain Rescue Team. All Chamber members will be sent two books of tickets to sell to customers, friends and families - but it is hoped that you will help sell even more than this.

A stall at this weekend's Taste Cumbria food festival proved incredibly successful, with more than £900 worth of tickets being sold.

Turn Cockermouth Pink

Soroptimist International of Cockermouth and District are planning to turn Cockermouth pink from 2nd to 9th October to raise cancer awareness and are seeking support from Chamber of Trade members. Those with shop windows are invited to turn them pink for the week and there is a competition for the best one. Banners, leaflets and posters are available to advertise the event in shops and workplaces.

There will be a Tree of Remembrance set up in Market Place and the event will end with a procession from Memorial Gardens on the 9th October.

Come along to the Chamber's next social event this Wednesday, 8 September, at The Saints Rooms, Cockermouth. A buffet will be served so we need to confirm numbers as soon as possible so, if you haven't done so already, please RSVP by email to spice.club@btinternet.com or text 07931 911 506.

The event starts at 7.30pm and partners are very welcome to come along too. Please let the Social Committee know by Monday if you are able to attend.

Help drive tourists into town

Businesses are invited to get involved in a driving event with a difference which aims to help keep Cockermouth on the tourist map. Wigton Motor Club is running the Cockermouth Revival Weekend for classic cars on Saturday 16 and Sunday 17 October 2010.

On the Saturday afternoon, the Allerdale Amble, will take place. This is a 75-mile touring event in the western Lakes and west Cumbria with a traditional Cumbria afternoon tea and is open to classic and interesting cars of all ages.
