National Flood Forum surgeries

The National Flood Forum is a charity set up in 2000. It is offering help to flood-hit residents and businesses at advice sessions in the area.

The Forum supports people who have flooded by advising on all encompassing problems that arise as a result of being flooded and to those at risk of flooding. It is the only organisation which addresses flooding exclusively.

The National Flood Forum is holding surgeries at three local venues to provide continued flood related advice:

Help put Cockermouth at the centre of West Cumbria's food celebrations

Does your business have anything to do with food and hospitality? If so, you are invited to a meeting to discuss the launch of West Cumbria’s new food tourism project.

From ice cream makers or farm shops, to delicatessens, restaurants, hotels and cafes – everyone can play their part.

The aim is to make Cockermouth the hub of West Cumbrian food promotion. The initiative will be launched with a weekend festival in the town, starting on Friday 24 September. See the new Chamber newsletter (in the document section of this website) for more details.

Gala Day - this Sunday, 4 July

Traders in Cockermouth are to open their stores to the public this Sunday, 4 July, for a day of free entertainment and family fun. Street entertainers, music, writers and crafty workshops will be on offfer for visitors between noon and 4pm.

A host of retailers will be staging entertainment and offering tasty treats at the Gala Day, which aims to celebrate the town’s revival after the floods.

The venue for the social event has changed!

The venue for the Chamber’s first social event has changed. Due to unforeseen circumstances, we will now be meeting for drinks in the Old Cooperage bar of Jennings Brewery at 7.30pm on Monday 5 July 2010.

All members and their partners are invited. Potential new members are also welcome on the night too, so please tell your friends and colleagues.

Driving home the 'Open for Business' message

Chamber of Trade Vice Chairman, Andy Barnard, has been spreading the word – in speedy style - that Cockermouth is ‘Open for Business’.

He took the message to the South of England while co-driving for his son, Richard, on the Abingdon CAR-nival Stages Rally in his new Subaru Impreza. Andy ensured the car carried the Chamber of Trade’s 'Cockermouth - Open for Business' stickers for all to see at the 13 June event.

Please support Festival's musical finale

Please can you spare an hour or two to help with stewarding at Cockermouth Midsummer Festival’s musical finale? Cockermouth LIVE takes place on Saturday 3 July, the final day of the Festival.

A great day of events is planned, at venues all across the town. It is hoped it will bring in plenty of much-needed visitors, as was the case at the Festival’s launch on carnival day.

Chamber of Commerce networking event

Cumbria Chamber of Commerce is hosting a free networking opportunity in Cockermouth on Wednesday 30 June. The Network Five event takes place at the Castle Bar, Market Place, from 5.30pm.
