RSVP now for social event - Wednesday 8 September 2010

Come along to the Chamber's next social event this Wednesday, 8 September, at The Saints Rooms, Cockermouth. A buffet will be served so we need to confirm numbers as soon as possible so, if you haven't done so already, please RSVP by email to or text 07931 911 506.

The event starts at 7.30pm and partners are very welcome to come along too. Please let the Social Committee know by Monday if you are able to attend.

Help drive tourists into town

Businesses are invited to get involved in a driving event with a difference which aims to help keep Cockermouth on the tourist map. Wigton Motor Club is running the Cockermouth Revival Weekend for classic cars on Saturday 16 and Sunday 17 October 2010.

On the Saturday afternoon, the Allerdale Amble, will take place. This is a 75-mile touring event in the western Lakes and west Cumbria with a traditional Cumbria afternoon tea and is open to classic and interesting cars of all ages.

Get involved with great charity event

The Chamber is holding its first charity event in November in aid of Cockermouth Mountain Rescue Team. The organisation was chosen by Chamber of Trade Chairman Jonty Chippendale and the event will give businesses and residents the opportunity to reward the Mountain Rescue volunteers for their amazing efforts during last year’s devastating floods.

The deadline is approaching for the Chamber’s new photographic competition.

If you fancy yourself as the next Mario Testino or David Bailey, please send us your pics for use on a fundraising calendar. All entries must arrive by Friday 27 August 2010.

 The calendar will be on sale in time for Christmas to raise awareness of the town’s beauty and encourage locals and tourists to visit, as well as raising money for Chamber funds.

Chamber of Trade members are being urged to get involved with a major festival of food which takes place from 25 -26 September 2010. Visitors can expect a feast of all things foodie – from bustling traditional farmers markets to celebrity chef demonstrations as the region’s best restaurants, bars and pubs join together in this large scale culinary celebration, and Cockermouth’s own eateries throw open their doors.

Princess Royal meets business owners

The Princess Royal visited Cockermouth businesses on a swift visit to the town.

She called at The Toy Shop and Pure Touch beauty salon in Main Street, as well as meeting staff at the Save The Children charity shop in Lowther Went.

The Princess also formally reopened Millers Bridge, which was badly damaged in the floods, and planted a tree in Memorial Gardens.
