Tour of Britain in Cockermouth

Dear all,
I’m sure you’re aware that the Tour of Britain is returning to Cockermouth on Monday 5 September. The cyclists will be hurtling past Cockermouth School, down Castlegate Drive,  down the main street to Wordsworth House and up Sullart Street / Gallowbarrow, turn left at the traffic lights, come down the hill past Lime-Lighting and then right onto Lorton Street before leaving town along Lorton Road.

Cockermouth in Cumbria Life September 2016

This is the final call for any business wanting to be included in the towns double page spread in September edition of Cumbria Life.  £30 and your business name, address and a product shot.

Spaces are limited for this promotion and are on a first-come-first-served basis. Please get in touch with Suzanne at to get involved.

I know it seems a while off but it takes time to coordinate and finalise and it needs finalising now!

Many thanks

Meeting and Shop 10

Hi all,

As a reminder, tonight is the next chamber meeting with Marie Whitehead from CN Events coming to talk to us about the Northbound street party and Taste festival.  This meeting is open to all, members and non-members, so please encourage as many people as possible to come along.

We are also looking for:

Publication of Cumbria Flood Action Plan

Floods Minister Rory Stewart has today published the emerging Cumbria Flood Action Plan.
The plan, which was developed by our Catchment Directors in liaison with the Cumbria Floods Partnership, sets out the short term actions being undertaken to reduce flood risk to 4,300 homes in the county, as well as proposed long term actions that will reduce flood risk for generations to come.

Can you display local school artwork?

Can you help?  Can you display a peace of artwork from our local school for a few weeks over the summer holidays?

We have extraordinary young talent in this town and it would be wonderful to share some of their work with the community through  the shops, empty or

If you can spare a small space for one or more peaces, please get in touch with Gilli ( who can then liaise with you.

Wordsworth House auction

Get your glad rags on for a good cause and enjoy an exclusive evening at Wordworth House and Garden.

Enjoy a glass of Prosecco in the garden, feast on puddings in the Georgian kitchen, then snap up a bargain in the auction!

From attraction tickets to restaurant vouchers, family camping trips to beauty treatments, works of art to once-in-a-lifetime experiences, we really do have an amazing array of auction items all kindly donated by local supporters.

Hosted by an auctioneer from Mitchells, this will be an evening to remember!

Shop 10 coordinator required

As you may have heard, Sue Hannah, after years of support to the Shop 10 scheme, will need to step down from the role of coordinating the vouchers/draw of Shop 10 with immediate effect.  My thanks to her for all of that work.

To help keep the scheme alive for the July draw, we need your help.  We are looking for one or two people to help collect the vouchers (or chase those needing to send them in!) that can continue to support the upkeep of the scheme.

Can you help?  Please get in touch ASAP otherwise the scheme will need to be suspended at the end of the month.

Adverts in Cumbria Life

Hopefully everyone has seen the advert in June's Cumbria Life we did?  Looked great and we're now in planning for the next edition which will go out during August in time for Taste.  Costs are only £30 for a slot and space is limited, first come first served.

We also have an email campaign going out via Cumbria Tourism in the next couple of weeks with a full newsletter out to 27,000 Cumbria Tourism subscribers who like to hear news and offers 'beyond the Lakes'.
