Flood Excess Insurance

Through some conversations and a little research, I have found that there is an insurance product to insure against flood insurance policy excess.  Yes, that's right - an insurance to cover the policy excess on flood insruance!

A £50,000 contents insurance with £5,000 excess, even with 2 claims in the last 5 years is coming up, with a CA13 postcode, of £243.

Town Clean - Wednesday 23rd March

You may have already seen but the date of Wednesday the 23 March for this year’s Cockermouth Town Centre Clean so that it takes place prior to the Easter holidays.

We will be meeting at 10am in Memorial Garden’s car park (previously Wakefield Road) in the Bridge Cafe and will be focussing on repair works within Memorial Gardens which was badly hit during the December flood.

As ever there will be refreshments for all those that help out and I envisage that we will finish no later than 2pm.

Business Support

With insurance renewals happening at different times during the year for each business, can I ask that everyone keeps us informed of any issues they may be experiencing in obtaining or renewing insurance.

It may be a hike in premiumns, refusal to insure or anything else, please keep us in touch.  If anyone can pass on details or issues to me (steve@flameconcepts.com) or Joe Broomfield (joe.broomfield@allerdale.gov.uk) we can then collate and pass onto bodies or relevant people.

Special General Meeting

Following the AGM and the election of the executive, there were a number of people who were not present and who have expressed an interest in joining the committee.  As such, the meeting on the 14th March at the recently re-opened Bush pub, will begin at 6pm with a 'Special General Meeting/AGM' to allow additional executive members to be elected onto the committee.

Once that formal part is completed, we will consider a motion to allocate chamber funds to a marketing campaign that the working group/marketing sub-committee has agreed.

Online petition re Business Flood Insurance

Bluefin have forwarded a link.  It is to an online petition to try to persuade the government to change the FloodRe scheme in order to include, amongst others, business premises.   FloodRe is the scheme being introduced to guarantee private householders flood insurnace but presently it excludes businesses.

From what Bluefin tell us, perhaps the only chance of us and others getting flood insurance cover going forward is if that scheme is changed by the government to included businesses.
