Three hours’ free parking is available at all car parks in Keswick and Cockermouth which are owned by Allerdale Borough Council, as well as at the Rawnsley Centre in Keswick.
The car parks included are:
Cockermouth: Fairfield, Wakefield Road, Bitterbeck, Riverside, Sullart Street
Keswick: Bell Close, Central, Lakeside, Otley Road, Rawnsley Centre
To help the towns get back on their feet, drivers will be able leave their cars free of charge for the first three hours of their stay from Saturday 12 December until Thursday 31 December 2015. They must display a parking disc showing the time of their arrival – discs are available from the Council’s office in Fairfield carpark (next to Sainsburys) in Cockermouth, at the Town Hall in Keswick, and as well as many of the businesses in the town centres. Those planning on staying for more than three hours should purchase the required time from the machine and it will be added to their free three hour stay.
Councillor Alan Smith, Leader of Allerdale Borough Council, said: “So many businesses have been hit by the floods in these two towns we have to do something to help their Christmas trade. We will review the situation at the end of the year but in the meantime we hope this really helps footfall in these towns.”
