This year’s Cockermouth lantern parade will take place on Friday 1 December, starting at 6pm (gather from 5:30pm) by the Town Hall as usual. It’s going to link in with the on-going renovation of the confluence area so will have a ‘river’ theme and will finish with a shadow-puppet performance on the confluence area itself, which people will view from the other side of the river.
As per last year I would like to combine the lantern parade with a late-night (at least until 8pm) shopping event, shops putting lanterns outside and branding it all as ‘Cockermouth by Candlelight’. There will be no road closures.
Lantern making workshops will take place at the Kirkgate Centre on Saturday the 18 November and at Highfield Community Centre on the 25 November.
I’m getting in touch to ask that you put this date in your diaries, open late, put lanterns outside of your shops and help spread the word to other Cockermouth businesses and members of the public. The event will be advertised in the Cockermouth Post and on social media and will hopefully draw a lot of people into town.
